2072578 9110229 PCTABS00006 A cassette device for cleaning portions of a video cassette recorder is provided. The cassette device includes a first fluid applicator (66) and a second fluid applicator (78), the second fluid applicator (78) positioned to wet a portion of tape (14) spaced from the portion wetted by the first applicator (66). Preferably, the second applicator (78) also acts to position the tape (14) to be spaced from the scanner (16) in one circumferential portion of the scanner (16). A device (68) is provided for contacting the tape (14) along a defined circumferential portion of the first applicator (66) to assure substantially continuous rotation of the first applicator (66) without direct-driving the first applicator.
