Production of a hydrogen-containing gas stream by subjecting a gas stream containing carbon monoxide and steam to the shift reaction using a shift catalyst containing, in the reduced state, at least 15% by weight of copper, wherein, immediately upstream of the shift catalyst, the gas stream is passed through a bed of an oxygen scavenger comprising an oxidisable composition containing copper and/or iron or iron oxide that is dissimilar to said shift catalyst.

L'invention concerne la production d'un flux de gaz contenant de l'hydrogène qui consiste à soumettre un flux de gaz renfermant du monoxyde de carbone et de la vapeur à une conversion, au moyen d'un catalyseur de conversion qui contient, à l'état réduit, au moins 15 % en poids de cuivre. Immédiatement en amont du catalyseur de conversion, le flux de gaz passe à travers un lit d'un épurateur d'oxygène qui contient une composition oxydable renfermant du cuivre et/ou du fer ou de l'oxyde de fer qui est différent du catalyseur de conversion.
