An antiplaque oral composition, such as a toothpaste, gel dentifrice, tooth powder, mouthrinse or mouthwash, tooth hardener, anticalculus composition, gum or lozenge, comprises triclosan as an antiplaque component, the antiplaque action of which is unexpectedly and beneficially increased by the presence in the oral composition of a phenolic flavoring agent, such as eucalpytol, thymol, methyl salicylate, menthol, phenol, halogenated derivatives thereof, and mixtures thereof.
