A luminous substance for light sources, whereby the emission thereof is located within the spectral region and has a granitic structure A3B5O12. Said substance is activated with Ce. The second constituent B represents at least one of the elements Al and Ga and the first constituent contains A terbium. Preferably, a garnet having the following structure (Tb1-x-y SE-Ce y)3(Al, Ga)5O12) is used, whereby SE=Y, Gd. La and/or Lu: 0<=x<=0,5-y; and 0 < y < 0,1.
