A scaled down version of a toroidal radio frequency (RF) ion trap mass analyzer operating with RF trapping voltages on the order of 1 kV p-p yet despite the reduced dimensions, retains roughly the same ion trapping volume as conventional 3D quadrupole ion traps , wherein the curved geometry enables construction of a compact mass analyzer and easy interface with conventional electron multipliers.

L'invention concerne une version réduite d'un analyseur de masse à piège ionique, radiofréquence, toroïdal, fonctionnant à des tensions de piégeage RF de l'ordre de 1 kV<SUB>p-p</SUB> et, en dépit de ses dimensions réduites, conserve sensiblement le même volume de piégeage que des pièges ioniques quadripôles traditionnels. La géométrie courbe permet la construction d'un anaylseur de masse compact et une interface aisée avec des multiplicateurs d'électrons traditionnels.
