Method of and apparatus for two-party data non-repudiation. For applications which have a (near) real-time operation, the slowness engendered by the straightforward cryptographic signing of messages may well be intolerable. Accordingly the invention provides a method of operating a terminal to provide non-repudiation in respect of data exchanged between the terminal and at least one other terminal, the data exchanged via a link in which at least a portion of the exchanged data may be lost, wherein a common block of received data is agreed between the participants. Rather than signing every packet, only the agreed data possessed in common after reception is signed.

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif de non-répudiation bipartite des données. En effet, pour les applications nécessitant un fonctionnement presque ou totalement en temps réel, la signature cryptographique immédiate des messages provoque des ralentissements devenant intolérables. L'invention propose donc un procédé de mise en oeuvre d'un terminal assurant la non-répudiation des données échangées entre le terminal et l'un au moins des autres terminaux, en l'occurrence, un échange des données se faisant par une liaison admettant qu'une partie des données échangées puissent se perdre, un bloc commun de données reçues faisant l'objet d'un accord entre les participants. A cet effet, au lieu de signer chaque paquet, on ne signe que les données validées mises en commun après réception.
