Method and apparatus for enabling secure connectivity using standards~based Virtual Private Network (VPN) IPSEC algorithms in a mobile and intermittently connected computing environment enhance the current standards based algorithms by allowing migratory devices to automatically (re)establish security sessions as the mobile end system roams across homogeneous or heterogeneous networks while maintaining network application session. The transitions between and among networks occur seamlessly -- shielding networked applications from interruptions in connectivity. The applications and/or users need not be aware of these transitions, although intervention is possible. The method does not require modification to existing network infrastructure and/or modification to networked applications.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant d'assurer une connectivité sécurisée au moyen d'algorithmes IPSEC de réseaux privés virtuels normalisés dans un environnement mobile et dans un environnement informatique à connexion intermittente. Le procédé et le dispositif décrits dans cette invention améliorent les algorithmes normalisés en cours en permettant à des dispositifs migrateurs d'établir ou de rétablir automatiquement des sessions de sécurité au fur et à mesure que le système terminal mobile se déplace à travers des réseaux homogènes ou hétérogènes, et en même temps, de maintenir une session d'application réseau. Les transitions entre les réseaux s'opèrent sans interruption, par blindage d'applications en réseau contre des interruptions de connectivité. Il n'est pas nécessaire que les applications et/ou les utilisateurs aient connaissance de ces transitions, bien qu'une intervention soit possible. Le procédé décrit dans l'invention ne nécessite aucune modification de l'infrastructure de réseau existante ni des applications en réseau.
