There is provided a method of promoting neurogenesis by administering a therapeutic amount of a nitric oxide donor compound to a patient in need of neurogenesis promotion. Also provided is a compound for providing neurogenesis having an effective amount of a nitric oxide donor sufficient to promote neurogenesis. A nitric oxide compound for promoting neurogenesis is also provided. Further, a method of augmenting the production of brain cells and facilitating cellular structural and receptor changes by administering an effective amount of a nitric oxide donor compound to a site in need of augmentation is provided. There is provided a method of increasing both neurological and cognitive function by administering an effective amount of a nitric oxide donor compound to a patient.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de favoriser la neurogenèse par administration d'une quantité thérapeutique d'un composé donneur d'oxyde nitrique à un patient. L'invention concerne aussi un composé provoquant la neurogenèse ayant une quantité efficace d'un donneur d'oxyde nitrique suffisante pour induire la neurogenèse ainsi qu'un composé d'oxyde nitrique destiné à induire la neurogenèse. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé permettant d'augmenter la production de cellules cérébrales et de faciliter les modifications de la structure et des récepteurs cellulaires par administration d'une quantité efficace d'un composé donneur d'oxyde nitrique à un site nécessitant cette augmentation. Fait aussi l'objet de cette invention un procédé d'augmentation des fonctions neurologique et cognitive par administration d'une quantité efficace d'un composé donneur d'oxyde nitrique à un patient.
