A thermoformable multi-layer sheet comprising: a. a first co-extruded polymeric layer comprising an ionomer resin of ethylene having a comonomer content between 8-25% by weight, based on the weight of the copolymer, of a C3- C8 .alpha.,.szlig. ethylenically unsaturated mono-carboxylic acid with at least 35% of the acid moieties neutralized with metal ions; a. a second co- extruded polymeric layer selected from an ionomer resin, an ethylene acid polymer, an ethylene copolymer, an ethylene acid terpolymer or a metallocene catalyzed very low density polyethylene (m-VLDPE) and optionally, contains pigments, dyes, flakes, additives and any mixtures thereof; and b. a third co- extruded polymeric adhesive layer of metallocene catalyzed very low density polyethylene (m-VLDPE); and c. optionally, at least one additional co-extruded fourth thermoformable polymeric layer or backing layer of for example, polypropylene, co-polymers of polypropylene, random polymers of polypropylene, blends polypropylene and other polyolefins that is in contact with and adhered to the third co-extruded layer; another aspect of this invention is that the second layer can be m-VLDPE and can contain pigments, dyes and other additives and be directly co-extruded with a third thermoformable polymer to form a three layered structure; another structure is a two layered structure in which the first layer is an ionomer resin as described above and the second layer is m-VLDPE directly co-extruded with the first layer and contains pigments, dyes and other additives; any of the above structures can be thermoformed and cladded with an appropriate engineering resin to form parts and panels for automobiles, trucks and recreational vehicle and the above two, three or four layer structures can be laminated to another thermoplastic resin to form films or laminates that have a wide variety of end uses.
Cette invention concerne une feuille multicouche thermoformable comprenant: (a) une première couche polymère coextrudée comprenant une résine ionomère d'éthylène présentant une teneur en comonomère constitué de 8 à 25 % en poids, par rapport au poids du copolymère, d'un acide monocarboxylique éthyléniquement insaturé .alpha.,.beta. C¿3-8?, au moins 35 % des fractions acides étant neutralisées par des ions métalliques; (a) une deuxième couche polymère coextrudée sélectionnée parmi une résine ionomère, un polymère d'acide éthylénique, un copolymère d'éthylène, un terpolymère d'acide éthylénique ou un polyéthylène à très basse densité à catalyse métallocène (m-VLDPE) et contenant éventuellement des pigments, des colorants, des particules et des additifs et tout mélange de ceux-ci; (b) une troisième couche adhésive polymère coextrudée de polyéthylène à très basse densité à catalyse métallocène (m-VLDPE); et (c) éventuellement au moins une quatrième couche ou couche support polymère thermoformable coextrudée supplémentaire constituée par exemple de polypropylène, de copolymères de polypropylène, de polymères aléatoires de polypropylène, de mélanges de polypropylène et autres polyoléfines et qui est en contact avec la troisième couche coextrudée et collée à celle-ci. Un autre aspect de cette invention se caractérise en ce que la deuxième couche peut être composée de polyéthylène à très basse densité à catalyse métallocène (m-VLDPE) et peut contenir des pigments, des colorants et autres additifs et peut être directement coextrudée avec un troisième polymère thermoformable pour qu'une structure à trois couches soit formée. Une autre structure est une structure à deux couches dans laquelle la première couche est constituée d'une résine ionomère telle que décrite plus haut et la seconde couche est constituée de polyéthylène à très basse densité à catalyse métallocène (m-VLDPE) directement coextrudé avec la première couche et qui contient des pigments, des colorants et autres additifs, toutes les structures susmentionnées pouvant être thermoformées et recouvertes d'une résine technique appropriée pour former des pièces et des panneaux pour véhicules automobiles, camions et véhicules de loisir. Les structures à deux, trois ou quatre couches susmentionnées peuvent être laminées sur une autre résine thermoplastique pour que des films ou des laminés présentant une multitude d'utilisations finales soient formés.
