[PROBLEMS] To provide a method and a kit for identifying the function of a gene product having an unknown function and a method and a kit for identifying a binding substance which are widely applicable to organism species over a broad scope. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] At least one gene product is added to a compound cocktail (for example, a metabolic system compound cocktail comprising all of the materials to be metabolized, coenzymes and so on participating in a certain metabolic system) and reacted therewith and then a change occurring in the compound cocktail is detected. Thus, the function of the gene product can be identified or a substance binding thereto can be identified.
