An apparatus for incising a stenosis within a vascular conduit of a patient includes an inflatable balloon attached to an elongated catheter that defines a longitudinal axis. The distal end of the balloon includes a tapered section and at least one incising blade is attached to the tapered section. Each incising blade is oriented on the tapered section with the proximal end of the blade radially distanced from the longitudinal axis at a distance r1 and the distal end of the incising blade radially distanced from the longitudinal axis at a distance r2. After the balloon has been inflated, each incising blade is oriented with r1 > r2 to position the incising blades at an angle relative to the axis. This cooperation of structure allows the incising blades to cut an incision into a stenosis during axial advancement of the inflated balloon.
L'invention concerne un appareil destiné à inciser une sténose à l'intérieur d'un conduit vasculaire d'un patient et comprenant un ballonnet gonflable fixé à un cathéter oblong définissant un axe longitudinal. L'extrémité distale du ballonnet comprend une partie conique et au moins une lame d'incision est fixée à la partie conique. Chaque lame d'incision est orientée sur la partie conique avec l'extrémité proximale de la lame écartée radialement de l'axe longitudinal à une distance r¿1? et l'extrémité distale de la lame d'incision écartée radialement de l'axe longitudinal à une distance r¿2?. Une fois le ballonnet gonflé, chaque lame d'incision est orientée avec r¿1? > r¿2? afin de positionner les lames d'incision à un angle donné par rapport à l'axe. Cette coopération de structure permet aux lames d'incision de pratiquer une incision dans une sténose lors de l'avance axiale du ballonnet gonflé.
