ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An optical slit lamp apparatus for conducting a visual examination of the human eye, comprises an objective lens for forming an image of the eye under examination in an image plane, and a compound eyepiece for viewing the thus formed image. The image plane is common to the object plane of the eyepiece. The eyepiece is constructed such that the image plane lies between the objective lens and the eyepiece, and a graticule is located in the common image/object plane, the graticule bearing graduations spaced such that when viewed through the eyepiece they represent actual dimensions of the eye under examination.
