- 9 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of precisely controlling the temperature of zirconia oxide oxygen sensor is disclosed. The zirconia oxide oxygen sensor has a zirconia oxide electrolyte which has an oxygen reference side and an oxygen potential measuring side. Each side of the zirconia oxide electro- lyte has associated therewith an electrode and an electrode lead. The method of precisely controlling the temperature of this structure has the steps as follows. An alternating current signal is applied to the zirconia oxide electrolyte by means of the electrode leads and electrodes associated therewith. As this alternating current signal is applied to the zirconia oxide electrolyte, the electrode leads and electrodes are used to measure the electrical resistance of the zirconia oxide electrolyte. Using a function of the measured electrical resistance of the zirconia oxide elec- trolyte, the temperature of the zirconia oxide electrolyte is controlled. This control may be established because there is a direct relationship between the resistance of zirconia oxide electrolyte and temperature.
