ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention is a slat or a vehicle article carrier adapted to be mounted in a longitudinally extending recess in a generally horizontal extending exterior vehicle body surface. The slat includes a channel member adapted to be disposed in the recess. The channel member has an upper surface adapted to be disposed substantially flush with the vehicle body surface.
