A compound of formula I (MO3S)m1 - Q1 - (CH2- (X1) - (Y1)n1)o1 (I) wherein M represents a metal cation, quaternary N cation or H; Y1 is a sulfonic or carboxylic acid or salt thereof; Q1 represents a pigment moiety; X1 is an aromatic group, a cyclo-hetero aliphatic group with at least one 5 atom or 6 atom ring or a hetero aromatic group with at least one 6 atom ring and which is not a phthalimido group; m1 and n1 independently from each other represent an integer from 0 to 2.5; and o1 is an integer from 0.05 to 4, or a compound of formula II (MO3S)m2 - O2 - (CH2 - (X2) - (Y2)n2)o2 (II) wherein: Q2 represents a 6,13-dihydroquinacridone moiety of formula III: Image wherein A and D each independently represent a substituent selected from H, F, Cl, C1- C3alkyl and C1-C3alkoxy M represents a metal cation, quaternary N cation or H; Y1 is a sulfonic or carboxylic acid or salt thereof; X2 is an aromatic group, a cyclo-hetero aliphatic group with at least one 5 atom or 6 atom ring or a hetero aromatic group with at least one 5 or 6 atom ring and which is not a phthalimido group; m2 and n2 independently from each other represent an integer from zero to 2.5; and o2 is an integer from zero to 4 and a process for the preparation and use of such compounds.
