This invention relates to the use of glycogen phosphorylase inhibitors of Formula I or Formula IA: (See formula I, IA) as defined herein, and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts and prodrugs thereof, to inhibit abnormal cell growth in mammals, including humans. The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing glycogen phosphorylase inhibitors alone or in combination with other glycogen phosphorylase inhibitors or other inhibitors of abnormal cell growth, and to methods of treating cancer, hyperproliferative disorders, or abnormal cell growth in a mammal by administering to a mammal in need thereof the compounds and compositions of the invention.
