Malfunctioning or misbehaving mobile stations (12), that are capable nonetheless of continuing to communicate with a wireless communication system (10), are detected for the purposes of either shutting down misbehaving mobile stations or reporting misbehaving mobile stations so that corrective action can be taken. An error detector and interpreter (23) detect (42) in wireless communication signals received from a mobile station any breach of protocol errors indicative of faulty operation of the mobile station. A misbehavior analyzer (26) analyzes (44) the errors over time to determine whether the mobile station is misbehaving. Normal access of the mobile station to the wireless communication system is shut down (46) or a message is sent to the subscriber in the event the mobile station is determined to be misbehaving. The mobile station also has a shutdown mode of operation (36), controllable by a message sent from the network, in which the mobile station remains idle and nonfunctional until repaired. The quality of service to subscribers using the wireless communication system is thus improved.
L'invention concerne des stations mobiles (12) en dysfonctionnement qui sont quand même capables de continuer à communiquer avec un système de radiocommunication (10). Ces stations mobiles sont détectées afin d'arrêter les stations mobiles en dysfonctionnement ou de les reporter pour que des mesures correctives puissent être prises. Un détecteur d'erreur et un interpréteur (23) détectent (42) dans les signaux de radiocommunication reçus d'une station mobile toute intrusion d'erreurs de protocole révélant le dysfonctionnement de la station mobile. Un analyseur de dysfonctionnement (20) analyse (44) les erreurs dans le temps pour déterminer si la station mobile est en dysfonctionnement. L'accès normal de la station mobile au système de radiocommunication est arrêté (46) ou un message est envoyé à l'abonné si la station mobile est déterminée comme étant en dysfonctionnement. La station mobile a également un mode de fonctionnement arrêt (36) pouvant être commandé par un message envoyé du réseau, dans lequel la station mobile demeure inoccupée et hors de service jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit réparée. La qualité de service destinée aux abonnés utilisant le système de radiocommunication est ainsi améliorée.
