Blends of a polyamide and a polymer of propylene are compatibilized and toughened by the use of a combination of a carboxylic acid (e. g. maleic anhydride) grafted propylene polymer and a carboxylic acid (e. g. maleic anhydride) grafted ethylene-propylene-diene polymer. The four components are prepared and blended such that the final composition has a balance of end-use properties such as toughness measured by both Gardner and Notched Izod and water insensitivity. These blends offer the high mechanical and thermal properties of polyamide (particularly polyamide 6.6) and the low moisture absorption and density of polypropylene. Formulations of these blends filled with inorganic fillers are useful as shaped articles, particularly as exterior automotive body panels where good dimensional stability and low density are desired.
