The present invention relates to a process for the continuous polymerisation of isobutene while maintaining at a constant desired value a property P (viscosity or average molecular mass) of the polymer produced. The polymerisation is conducted in a reactor comprising a boiling liquid reaction phase which contains the monomer and the polymer being formed, in equilibrium with a gas phase on top of the said liquid phase, by continuous introduction into the reactor of a catalyst and of a C4 hydrocarbon feed mixture comprising the monomer, and by continuous withdrawal from the reactor of the liquid reaction phase, which is subsequently subjected continuously to at least one purification step which is intended to isolate the polyisobutene produced. The process comprises the determination of a target value V of the partial pressure piC4 of the isobutene in the gas phase of the reactor corresponding to the property P, by virtue of an empirical relationship established beforehand between the property P of the polyisobutene produced and piC4. During the polymerization, piC4 is measured and held constant at around the target value V by acting on the flow rate Qc of the catalyst introduced into the reactor and/or on the flow rate Qh of the C4 hydrocarbon feed mixture.

L'invention concerne un procédé utilisé pour polymériser, de façon continuelle, de l'isobutène tout en maintenant, à une valeur constante choisie, une propriété P (viscosité, ou masse moléculaire moyenne) du polymère produit. La polymérisation s'effectue dans un réacteur comprenant une phase de réaction d'un liquide en ébullition contenant le monomère et le polymère en formation, lesquels sont en équilibre avec une phase gazeuse à la surface de ladite phase liquide, en incorporant, de façon continue dans le réacteur, un catalyseur et un mélange enrichi en hydrocarbures C4 comprenant le monomère, et en retirant de façon continue du réacteur la phase de réaction du liquide, laquelle est par la suite soumise, de façon continue, à au moins une étape de purification qui a pour but d'isoler le polyisobutène ainsi produit. Le processus comprend l'analyse d'une valeur cible V de la pression partielle piC4 de l'isobutène dans la phase gazeuse du réacteur correspondant à la propriété P, en raison d'une relation empirique établie au préalable entre la propriété P du polyisobutène produit et piC4. Au cours de la polymérisation, piC4 est mesuré et maintenu à une valeur autour de la valeur cible V en intervenant sur le coefficient d'écoulement Qc du catalyseur introduit dans le réacteur et/ou sur le coefficient d'écoulement Qh du mélange enrichi en hydrocarbures C4.
