The invention has as its object to provide an air bag (11) for a side air bag device capable of reducing the size and weight of the device (M1) while retaining a tension line (L - L) when expanded. The air bag (11) is mounted on the peripheral edge of a door opening (W) at the inside of a compartment, and is formed into a generally rectangular bag shape for covering the door opening when expanded, while being equipped with a gas inlet (19) for introducing an expanding gas. The air bag is provided with joints (22) jointing an inner side wall (12) and an outer side wall (13) partially so as to form a tension line L - L when expanded. The individual joints (22) are juxtaposed in plurality along the tension line so as to cross the tension line, and are arranged generally at vertically middle portions so as to form one expansion chamber (18) having upper and lower spaces (18a and 18b) for the expanding gas to flow therethrough.
Un coussin de sécurité gonflable (11), destiné à des dispositifs coussins de sécurité gonflables latéraux, forme une ligne de tension (L - L) après dilatation et permet de fabriquer des dispositifs (M1) petits et légers. Un coussin de sécurité gonflable (11) est monté sur le bord périphérique d'une ouverture (W) de portière dans l'habitacle d'un véhicule. Il comporte une partie d'entrée (19) de gaz, par lequel un gaz d'expansion peut passer, et il est conçu pour se dilater de façon à prendre une forme de sac plat sensiblement rectangulaire recouvrant l'ouverture de la portière. Il comporte des joints (22) qui relient partiellement une partie paroi intérieure (12) et une partie paroi extérieure (13), de façon à former une ligne de tension (L - L) après dilatation. Les joints correspondants (22) sont disposés adjacents le long de la ligne de tension, de façon à la croiser, et sensiblement au milieu dans la direction verticale, de façon à diviser une chambre d'expansion (18), qui se constitue après dilatation, en un espace supérieur et un espace inférieur (18a, 18b) dans la direction verticale, laissant passer le gaz d'expansion.
