The invention overcomes the problem of paper edge overdrying during the paper drying process on paper machine drying cylinders. It comprises applying a thin ceramic coating onto the circumferential exterior surface of the cylinder near the cylinder edges, thereby forming a thermal barrier coating which decreases paper drying rate at said edges and reduces or eliminates paper edge overdrying.

Pour résoudre le problème du surséchage des bords du papier pendant le processus de séchage du papier sur les cylindres sécheurs d'une machine à papier, on applique un mince revêtement céramique à la surface circonférentielle externe de ces cylindres, près des bords de ces derniers, pour former une protection thermique qui abaisse le taux de séchage du papier vers ces bords et réduit ou élimine le surséchage des bords du papier.
