The invention pertains to a method and apparatus for guiding a material web or strip thereof toward and around a movable guide element. Thereby, a simple and safe solution appears in the foreground. This is achieved in that, for example, that in the press portion of a papermaking machine a strip of the paper web (1) is brought into the vicinity of a rotating guide roller (2). There, a nearly tangentially extending air jet, relative to the rotatable guide roller (2) of a blast nozzle (3), serves for the transport to a subsequent unit (8).
