A system and method are disclosed for separating particles having different sedimentation velocities. The system includes a fluid chamber for separating the parti-cles from one another. Conduits are provided for flow-ing liquid carrying particles to the fluid chamber and for mixing the liquid with a diluting liquid. Structure is also provided for separating particles from the liquids after the particles are separated in the fluid chamber. The disclosed methods include forming a saturated flu-idized bed of first particles to retain second particles in the fluid chamber. A diluting liquid having a density less than that of the particles is mixed with the liq-uid carrying particles to reduce overall density of sub-stances in the fluid chamber and thereby reduce Coriolis jetting of liquids in the fluid chamber.
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé de séparation de particules à vitesses de sédimentation différentes. Le système comporte une chambre à fluide destinée à séparer les particules les unes des autres. On a prévu des conduits destinés à amener dans la chambre à fluide un liquide transportant des particules, et à mélanger ce liquide avec un liquide de dilution. On a également prévu une structure permettant de séparer les particules des liquides, après la séparation des particules dans la chambre à fluide. Les procédés de l'invention consistent à former un lit fluidisé saturé de premières particules permettant de retenir des secondes particules dans la chambre à fluide. On mélange au liquide transportant des particules, un liquide de dilution dont la densité est inférieure à celle des particules, pour réduire la densité globale de substances dans la chambre à fluide et, ainsi, réduire les turbulences de Coriolis des liquides dans la chambre à fluide.
