ABSTRACT A non-disposable filter for coffee and other beverages is provided, using thin stainless steel etched chemically to form a large number of very small, closely spaced holes therethrough. The stainless steel is manipulated into the appropriate shape and is then placed in the mould. Plastic is then injection moulded to produce the final product, with plastic covering the edges and seams of the stainless steel. To hold the stainless steel in the appropriate shape, both to facilitate positioning in the mould and to hold the general shape until the mould is closed, a portion of the stainless steel is provided with a plurality of tabs, and the portion with which it is intended to engage is provided with a plurality of corresponding slots to receive the tabs. The holes preferably have a nominal diameter of 0.005 inch, with tolerances of +.001 inch and -.002 inch. The holes should account for about 28% of the area, ?4%.
