A bag closure element (10) comprising a sheet-like body (12), the body including two spaced expanses ( 14), each expanse including an opening (16) to grip an object (44) passed therethrough, a fold region (32) positioned between the expanses (14), and the expanses (14) extending at an acute angle with respect to each other when an object (44) is gripped. The closure element (10) also includes slits (18) providing access to the openings (16). The object (44) gripped by the openings (16) is preferably the gathered (46) or twisted portion (46) of a plastic bag (44), which extends linearly between and through the openings (16).
