A shelving kit package is disclosed which employs a two-part container in which the various components of a shelf assembly are contained. Preferably, a lid portion is in telescoping relationship with a base portion, thereby enabling the container to receive shelf assemblies of different sizes. The container can have one or more dividers in order to efficiently package the shelf assembly components. One divider type has notches shaped and dimensioned to receive shelf assembly components, or is made of material which is deformable to create such notches. In some embodiments, a lid of the container assembly has one or more apertures through which oversize shelf assembly components can extend. Also, straps located within the container can receive one or more shelf assembly components and can retain the components in desired positions within the container. The container assembly can include a pallet for easier transport of the packaged shelf assembly.
