Provided is a catheter introducer that in-cludes a flexible introducer tube that will in use extend percutaneously through the skin of the patient in order to enable the introduction of a catheter into a bodily lumen. Medical practitioners (and their patients) would be inter-ested in a catheter introducer in which the tube exhibits a thinner wall, with no loss of performance and no loss of lumen diameter. The described introducer tube is a co-axi-al assembly of a structural element that exhibits a multi-plicity of full wall thickness openings, and a sealing ele-ment that restrains fluid flow through the openings, the ra-dial wall thickness of the sealing element being less than that of the structural element. To improve resistance to endwise compression, the introducer may be provided with the sealing element in such a configuration as to pre-compress the tube; that is, the slits are closed to some de-sired degree under longitudinal compression provided by tension in the sealing element.
L'invention porte sur un intubateur de cathéter qui comprend un tube souple d'intubateur qui, en utilisation, s'étendra de façon percutanée à travers la peau du patient afin de permettre l'introduction d'un cathéter dans une lumière du corps. Les médecins (et leurs patients) pourraient être intéressés par un intubateur de cathéter dans lequel le tube présente une paroi plus fine, sans perte defficacité et sans perte de diamètre de lumière. Le tube d'intubateur décrit est un ensemble coaxial composé d'un élément structurel qui présente une multiplicité d'ouvertures à épaisseur de paroi entière, et d'un élément d'étanchéité qui limite l'écoulement de fluide à travers les ouvertures, l'épaisseur de paroi radiale de l'élément d'étanchéité étant inférieure à celle de l'élément structurel. Pour améliorer la résistance à une compression d'extrémité, l'intubateur peut être muni de l'élément d'étanchéité dans une configuration permettant la compression préalable du tube ; autrement dit, les fentes sont fermées selon un degré voulu sous une compression longitudinale fournie par une tension dans l'élément d'étanchéité.
