The invention provides a plurality of peptides (and immunologically functional variants thereof) which are immunogenic epitopes recognized by CD8+ class I MHC restricted cytotoxic T-lymphocytes of patients harboring latent cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection. The peptides are capable of activating CTLs and CTLp's in the absence of active viral replication, and thus are useful for eliciting a cellular immune response against HCMV by normal and immunodeficient subjects. Polypeptide and lipopeptide vaccines, with and without adjuvants, are also disclosed.

L'invention concerne une pluralité de peptides (ainsi que des variants immunologiquement fonctionnels de ceux-ci) lesquels sont des épitopes immunogènes reconnus par les lymphocytes T cytotoxiques à restriction du complexe majeur d'istocompatibilité (CMH) de classe I à CD8?+¿ de patients présentant une infection à cytomégalovirus (HCMV) latente. Les peptides sont capables d'activer des lymphocytes T cytotoxiques (CTL) et des précurseurs de CTL en l'absence d'une réplication virale active, par conséquent ils sont utiles pour mettre en lumière une réaction immune cellulaire contre le HCMV chez des sujets normaux et immunodéficients. Des vaccins polypeptidiques et lipopeptidiques, avec et sans adjuvant, sont également décrits.
