-1- Abstract The present invention is directed to a process for the production of 2-thiophene aldehydes, in which the 2-thiophene aldehydes are obtained by the formylation of thiophene or derivatives thereof with formamides and phosgene. The 2- thiophene aldehydes obtained by the process of the present invention are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of medicaments, agricultural chemicals, etc.
