Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to a process for the production of 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-5-methoxy-2-methyl-3-indolylacetoxy- acetic acid (known to be useful as an antiphlogistic agent) which comprises reacting a-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-4-methoxy- phenylhydrazine hydrochloride or sulphonate with laevulinoyl- oxyecetic acid and cyclizing the resulting hydrazone to obtain a product free from 1-benzoyl-5-methoxy-2-methyl-3- indolylacetoxyacetic acid.
