Methods of diagnosing bone disease such as osteoporosis are provided. The methods comprise detecting changes in the physical or chemical structure of a keratinized tissue as correlates of disease. The methods include detecting changes in the hardness, modulus, or level of sulfur bonding, particularly the level of disulfide bonding, in a keratinized tissue sample such as nail, hair, or skin. Changes in these variables serve as diagnostic markers of bone diseases that are associated with changes in bone elasticity and bone density.

La présente invention concerne des procédés permettant un diagnostic d'affections osseuses telles que l'ostéoporose. Ces procédés comportent une détection de modifications de la structure physique ou chimique d'un tissu corné évoluant en corrélation avec l'affection. En l'occurrence, on repère des modifications affectant la dureté, le module élastique ou le niveau de pont de soufre, et notamment le niveau de liaison disulfure. On fait cette recherche dans un échantillon prélevé sur les ongles, les cheveux ou la peau. L'évolution de ces variables sert de marqueur de diagnostic d'affections osseuses en liaison avec des évolutions de l'élasticité osseuse et de la densité osseuse.
