Transmission patterns for pilot symbols transmitted from a mobile station or base station are provided. The pattern allows for improved receipt of the pilot symbols transmitted. In addition, schemes for improving the ability to multiplex pilot symbols without interference and/ or biasing from different mobile stations over the same frequencies and in the same time slots . In Frequency Hopping OFDMA, the pilot symbols between users may overlap. Orthogonality between overlapping users is ensured by using orthogonal pilot sequences, sector and cell specific scrambling codes.

La présente invention concerne les formats d'émission des symboles pilotes émis depuis une station mobile ou une station de base. Le format assure une meilleure réception des symboles pilotes émis. Cette invention se rapporte également à des moyens qui permettent d'améliorer l'aptitude à multiplexer des symboles pilotes sans interférence et/ou à émettre depuis différentes stations mobiles sur la même fréquence et dans les mêmes intervalles de temps. Dans le sot de fréquences OFDMA, les symboles pilotes entre les utilisateurs peuvent se chevaucher. L'orthogonalité entre les utilisateurs se chevauchant est assurée par utilisation de séquences pilotes orthogonales, de codes de brouillage spécifiques à un secteur et à des cellules.
