The present invention relates to a method of working up and recovering returned explosives which are principally of the military type and which contain both fusible and non-fusible crystalline substances. In accordance with the invention, the returned explosive is treated in a multi-stage process which includes a first leaching stage for removing the non-crystalline, preferably fusible, component of the explosive in the form of trotyl, wax or plastic. The substance used in the leaching stage, principally toluene, does not affect the crystalline components of the explosive. The collected leaching liquid is separated off and the toluene, together with its dissolved content of trotyl or wax, is conveyed onwards for working up. The toluene which is recovered during the working up is returned to the process while the remaining filtrate from the filtration stage is treated with solvent which dissolves the crystalline high-energy explosives octogen and hexogen, respectively, which are relevant in this connection, which explosives, in a subsequent process stage, are precipitated out in the form of new crystals which, after a possible recrystallization, are ready to be reused. The solvent which is used in this connection is returned to the process.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de transformation et de récupération des explosifs non utilisés, principalement des explosifs militaires contenant à la fois des substances cristallines fusibles et non fusibles. Selon cette invention, l'explosif non utilisé est traité en plusieurs étapes, la première étant une étape de lixiviation durant laquelle on extrait le composant non cristallin, de préférence fusible, de l'explosif sous forme de trotyl, de cire ou de plastic. La substance utilisée lors de l'étape de lixiviation, de préférence du toluène, n'altère pas les composants cristallins de l'explosif. Le liquide recueilli après lixiviation est ensuite séparé, puis le toluène, ainsi que la cire ou le trotyl dissous qu'il contient, est ensuite acheminé vers une autre étape de transformation. Le toluène recueilli lors de la transformation est renvoyé dans le système de traitement alors que les produits issus de l'étape de filtration sont traités à l'aide d'un solvant afin de dissoudre, respectivement, l'octogène et l'hexogène cristallins hautement explosifs qui sont concernés. Lors de l'étape de traitement suivante, ces explosifs sont précipités sous forme de nouveaux cristaux prêts à l'emploi, après une éventuelle recristallisation. Le solvant utilisé lors de cette opération est renvoyé dans le système de traitement.
