A plant substrate in form of an earth-like mixture for window-boxes (10) is characterised in that it fills a bag (12) whose sheath consists of a plastic foil that is not easily permeable to light and is permeable to water from the outside. The shape of the bag (12) matches or may be matched to the inner cross-section of the window-box (10) so that the bag (12) fits into the window- box (10).
