Non-ionic surfactant vesicles (NSIV) with entrapped antigen act as potent immunological adjuvants and can produce antibody titres of the same order of magnitude as those using Freund's Complete Adjuvant. The invention provides vaccines comprising such vesicles. Preferably non-ionic surfactants are glycerol esters particularly I-monopalmitoyl glycerol. The vesicles may be administered by injection or via the mucosal route, oral administration being preferred.

Des vésicules tensio actives non ioniques qui renferment un antigène agissent en tant qu'adjuvants immunologiques puissants et peuvent donner des titres d'anticorps du même ordre de grandeur que ceux obtenus avec l'adjuvant complet de Freund. L'invention porte sur des vaccins qui contiennent de telles vésicules. Ces tensioactifs non ioniques sont de préférence des esters de glycérol, notamment le glycérol 1-monopalmitoyle. On peut administrer ces vésicules par injection ou par les muqueuses, l'administration orale bénéficiant de la préférence.
