In a method of conferring nematode resistance to a plant, identification is made of a gene which is induced within a nematode infected plant as a result of the infection. The so identified gene is then modified to confer nematode resistance to the plant. The method avoids this use of nematicides, which can be toxic, and improves on cultural and existing gene techniques by being universal in application and persistent.
