ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fault insertion device is interfaced to an integrated circuit through an interface connector capable of isolating sockets in a circuit board from pins on an integrated circuit. The respective pins and sockets of the interface connector are connected to a fault insertion device containing switches effective for simulating a plurality of faults at selected ones of the pins and socket. Following the setup of each simulated fault, self-test software, under development, is run to determine whether the known inserted fault is correctly detected, incorrectly detected, or missed.
