ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE NUMBER OF DEFECTIVE DIGITAL BITS (DEFECTIVE BIT NUMBER) TRANSMITTED OVER A DATA-TRANSMISSION PATH TO BE TESTED, AND DEVICE FOR THE CARRYING OUT OF THE METHOD A data-transmission path (DS) which is to be tested is fed on its input end with a digital test sequence (A). An output sequence received is correlated with a reference sequence (R) corresponding to the test sequence (A) by cyclicly bit-wise shifted exclusive-OR operation (EXOR) followed by check-sum formation (Q) for the formation of a binary cross-correlation (ICKFd); the low-order positions of the extreme value (EX) of the cross-correlation function (KKFd) indicate directly the number of defective bits (BF).
