The invention relates to a process for producing biomedical articles, in particular, silicone hydrogel contact lenses having durable hydrophilic chitosan coating. The chitosan coating is covalently attached to the medical device by performing a crosslinking reaction between chitosan and the carboxylic groups on the surface of a medical device directly in a sealed package during autoclave. The coated biomedical articles obtainable by the process of the invention have desirable characteristics regarding adherence to the substrate, durability, hydrophilicity, wettability, biocompatibility and permeability and are thus especially useful in the field of ophthalmic devices.
L'invention concerne un procédé pour produire des articles biomédicaux, en particulier des lentilles de contact hydrogel de silicone ayant un revêtement de chitosane hydrophile durable. Le revêtement de chitosane est lié de façon covalente au dispositif médical par réalisation d'une réaction de réticulation entre le chitosane et les groupes carboxyle sur la surface d'un dispositif médical directement dans un emballage scellé pendant le passage à l'autoclave. Les articles biomédicaux revêtus pouvant être obtenus à l'aide du procédé selon l'invention présentent des caractéristiques souhaitables en ce qui concerne l'adhérence au substrat, la durée de vie, la qualité hydrophile, l'aptitude au mouillage, la biocompatibilité et la perméabilité, et sont ainsi particulièrement utiles dans le domaine des dispositifs ophtalmiques.
