Some physical conditions, e.g., arthritis, cancer, trauma, etc, necessitate arthroplastic surgery to prosthetically improve the articular surfaces between the first metacarpal (22) and the trapezium (32). A trapezium implant (38) is used as a resurfacing implant for the trapezium (32).
