A percutaneous cannula (902) is provided that directs blood into a vessel (V) of a patient. The cannula (902) includes a main cannula portion (904), a tip portion (906), a distal end (908), and a lumen (910). The tip portion (906) directs blood-flow in a direction generally counter to the direction of flow through the lumen (910). The cannula (902) is configured to prevent blood-flow exiting the distal end (908) from immediately discharging against a wall of the vessel.
