Abstract The invention relates to a new method for preparing a suppor- ted procatalyst of a catalyst system intended for the polyme- rization of olefins, in which the reaction product formed from magnesium halogenide and an alcohol is treated in order to remove the alcohol and is activated with a transition metal compound and optionally an electron donor. In solutions of prior art the transition metal compound reacts with the alco- hol as well as with the magnesium chloride and additionally acts as a medium for separating the by-product formed of it self and the alcohol. The problem is then that great amounts of transition metal are wasted and that said by-product is a hazardous waste that is difficult to treat. These problems have been solved in the present invention by removing the al- cohol with the aid of a separate grinding-evaporation step. The grinding-evaporation step is preferably carried out by jet mills by using a temperature gradient for the gas.
