Methods of data streaming from an encoder to a decoder through a connection subjected to time-varying condi-tions are disclosed. The connection is assigned a nominal flow rate and an encoding coefficient associated with the connection modifies the nominal flow rate to determine a permissible flow rate compatible with a time- varying state of the connection. Multi-ple performance characteristics are associated with the connection and corresponding sets of performance measurements taken over adaptively selected time windows are acquired. Performance metrics having one-to- one correspondence to the performance characteristics are determined and compared with lower bounds and upper bounds of respective predefined acceptance intervals. A current encoding coefficient is computed as a function of the performance metrics and used to determine the permissible flow rate. A configuration of the encoder is adapted to produce an encoded signal which maximizes signal fidelity under the constraint of the permissible flow rate.
La présente invention concerne des procédés de diffusion de données en continu depuis un codeur vers un décodeur à travers une connexion sujette à des conditions variables dans le temps. La connexion est allouée un débit nominal et un coefficient de codage associé à la connexion modifie le débit nominal afin de déterminer le débit admissible compatible avec létat variable dans le temps de la connexion. Une pluralité de caractéristiques de performance sont associées à la connexion et des ensembles correspondants de mesures de performances effectuées sur des fenêtres temporelles sélectionnées de manière adaptative sont acquis. Des métriques de performance présentant une correspondance biunivoque avec les caractéristiques de performance sont déterminées et comparées à des limites inférieures et des limites supérieures dintervalles dacceptation prédéfinis respectifs. Un coefficient de codage courant est calculé en fonction des métriques de performance et utilisé pour déterminer le débit admissible. Une configuration du codeur est adaptée pour produire un signal codé qui maximise la fidélité des signaux sous la contrainte du débit admissible.
