ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An end mill is disclosed which comprises a tool body having a generally cylindrical column shape. The tool body has a plurality of grooves formed in a spiral shape around the axis thereof on the circumferential surface thereof. Each of the grooves has a plurality of cutting insert elements disposed on a wall thereof so that the cutting edge of the cutting insert ele- ments faces toward the external circumference of the tool body. The grooves comprise a first group of grooves, including at least one of the spirally formed grooves, wherein each of the first group of grooves has a first number of the cutting insert ele- ments disposed therein, with a first spacing along the wall thereof in the direction of the spirally formed grooves. The grooves further comprise a second group of grooves including the remainder of the spirally formed grooves, wherein each of the second group of grooves has a second number of the cutting insert elements disposed therein with a second spacing along the wall thereof in the direction of the spirally formed grooves. The second number of the cutting insert elements are further disposed so that the cutting edges of the second number of the cutting in- sert elements overlap, at each end thereof, the rotational locus of corresponding cutting edges of the first number of the cutting insert elements.
