A holder for a reversible tool bit can be mounted in a tool such as an electric drill. The holder has a body, a shank extending from the body for mounting in the tool, and a socket for receiving the reversible tool bit. A locking collar engages the reversible tool bit to secure it in the socket. The reversible tool bit may have a drill bit and possibly a countersink on one end, and a screwdriver bit on the other end, as one example. A stabilizing sleeve is telescopically mounted on the body and is movable between a first position in which the stabilizing sleeve is extended over the locking collar and the tool bit to stabilize a workpiece engaged by the tool bit, and a second position in which the stabilizing sleeve is retracted from the reversible tool bit.
