An aircraft includes a fuselage (10) having a lower fuselage part (12) and a fluid tank (17) located adjacent the lower fuselage part (12), the fluid tank (17) being at least partially filled with fluid (18) and an open cell foam material (20) so that in the event of impact on the lower fuselage part (12), fluid is constrained to flow through the foam material (20) to provide controlled deformation of the lower fuselage part (12).
