An improved intra-aortic balloon catheter system comprising an insertion sheath (20), having an expandable distal end (70), and a tapered balloon membrane (40) capable of being removed through said insertion sheath (20) upon completion of therapy. The outer diameter of the balloon membrane (40) in a wrapped state is smaller than the outer diameter of the outer tube (30).

L'invention concerne un système de sonde à ballonnet intra-aortique améliorée comportant une gaine d'insertion (20), pourvue d'une extrémité distale (70) pouvant se dilater, et une membrane (40) de ballonnet effilée pouvant être retirée par ladite gaine d'insertion (20) à l'achèvement de la thérapie. Le diamètre extérieur de ladite membrane (40) enroulée, est inférieur au diamètre extérieur du tube extérieur (30).
