Apparatus for electric arc treating the surface of a workpiece, the surface having a substantial area. The treating is effected by a continuous, closed loop electrode having a main body portion and a closed tip edge projecting laterally from a general plane of the main body portion for establishing an arc between the tip edge and the workpiece surface. The arc is moved about the continuous electrode tip by magnetic means located in close proximity to the electrode, the magnetic means including a closed loop pole member spaced outwardly of and concentric with the closed loop tip edge. A second pole member of a polarity opposite the outer pole member is located in the general center of the closed loop tip edge.
Appareil de traitement par arc électrique de la surface d'une pièce d'ouvrage, cette surface présentant une superficie appréciable. Le traitement est effectué par une électrode à boucle fermée, continue, comportant un corps principal et un rebord d'extrémité fermé faisant saillie latéralement par rapport au plan général du corps principal, pour établir un arc entre ce rebord et la surface de la pièce d'ouvrage. L'arc se déplace le long de l'extrémité de l'électrode continue grâce à un dispositif magnétique situé à proximité étroite de celle-ci, ce dispositif magnétique comportant un élément polaire à boucle fermée, disposé de manière concentrique à l'extérieur du rebord d'extrémité de boucle fermée. Un deuxième élément polaire de polarité contraire à l'élément polaire externe est situé au centre du rebord d'extrémité à boucle fermée.
