Cytogenetic tests are informative for clinical management of cancer patients. Routine cytogenetic tests are only available for blood cancer, of which cells can grow in suspension. Solid tumour cells can only grow after being attached to a solid surface. Cytogenetic tests require cell growth and dividing. The current monolayer cell culture method for solid tumour cytogenetics has a high failure rate and frequent overgrowth of normal cells. The present invention, culture of tiny tumour fragments in suspension, will dramatically improve solid tumour cytogenetics by preserving the three dimensional environment in which tumour cells grow in the human body and yet providing sufficient nutrients and oxygen. It also cuts the culture time from 15 to 30 days to 3 to 4 days. The adaption of the present organoid culture method may make solid tumour cytogenetic tests available for clinical routine. Organoid culture method may also be used for drug and radiotherapy tests.
