Electrical and optical couplings are provided in a common hous- ing for electrically and optically interconnecting respective cable ends. Such cables have a central optical conductor sur- rounded by an electrical conductor, preferably a wire mesh con- ductor. The coupling components cooperate with each other for providing a secure electrical connection and a precise optical coupling, while simultaneously protecting the optical conductor against damage and against excessive bending. The electrical connection and the optical coupling are separate and do not interfere with each other.
